Air-head

I always bring Brandy out to do her big business every afternoon. We would go the same route every day, one round around the next block from the house, because she somehow prefers shitting somewhere there.

The dogs belonging to the residents there are kind of familiar with her. They only bark when we walk pass the house and that's it. No more barking. Just do whatever you want as long as you don't do it near my owner's driveway.

Unfortunately, there's this particular house owner who got pissed with Brandy and I because his dogs get overexcited when they see Brandy. So one day, he told me, "don't ever bring your dog here anymore. My dogs like your dog and I do not like it that I have to make sure that your dog is not there before I open the gate."

From that day onwards, I would bring Brandy along the grassy patch opposite his house. But we would never stop right in front his house. But the owner was still not happy. He told his son to tell me not to step foot at his residential area, as if he owns the housing estate.

I never heeded his command. So one fateful day, I brought Brandy out to do her business. We had not turned the street to his house. We were about 150m. away from his house. His car reached home. He opened the gate and immediately two of his five dogs, one of which is a Rottweiler, came out and rushed to the junction and jumped on Brandy. I tried to run but the rottweiler outran Brandy and I. Brandy got attacked. I screamed for help. I tried to pull Brandy away. The two dogs came chasing us. I managed to pull her for 100m. but the two dogs did not stop attacking Brandy. She was squeaking and I was screaming. The owner of the two dogs who knew perfectly well that his two dogs ran out of the house did not come out to help at all or get his two dogs into his house. A car saw us but did not bother. Thank God a nearby neighbour heard me and rushed out. I cried frantically, while asking her to help me. She got her water hose out and quickly sprayed water at the two dogs. After the two dogs released Brandy, she asked me to go home as fast as i could while she stood there with the water hose in her hand, making sure those two dogs don't come chasing after Brandy and I. I thanked her profusely after that.

I got home and bathed Brandy with antiseptic pet shampoo while checking for wounds or injuries. Thank God she was not injured, though she was still as traumatized as me. By the time my dad got home, Brandy was back to her normal self but we thought of informing the owner about the incident so he would take extra precaution next time.

My dad confronted him. He came to his defence and said that he did warn me before not to walk that street and I did not listen to his instructions. So it is not his business that his dog came out to attack Brandy. We could not accept his reasoning because the street was a public property. If I trespass his property and his dogs come attacking us, fair enough. But it was a public property. Furthermore, if he can't control his dogs, why is he stopping us from walking there. He then said that walking along the road is dangerous. My dad told him that the road is not dangerous. It was his dogs that made it dangerous. He answered, "it is my dog. So why are you telling me?"

Anyways that man is about 60+ years old so my dad didn't bother to argue with him. My dad told him to just becareful before opening his gate. If there are any dogs around the corner, do not open the gate unless his dogs are all under control. He went on saying that it is not his business because it is our fault for being there.

Interesting reason, that air-head old man gave. So let's say if his car gets knock one day, it is not the other driver's fault but his own fault since he was there. If he weren't there, he wouldn't get knock. Pity we didn't tell him to becareful when driving because there might be a possibility that his car might get knock!

My dad does not intend to further this issue since Brandy is safe. I will just bring her to a different route next time, though I'm still traumatized.

But in times like this, I wonder whether some dog owners actually know that it is also their responsibility to keep their dogs under control?

Anyways, that incident was uncalled for. But such is life. Sigh.
